Body Positive Tips to Increase Confidence and Self-Esteem

8705332490_d5368ea52e_bIn the age of photoshop and airbrush, it can be difficult to maintain a body positive mentality. When the unattainable standard of beauty is consistently staring you in the face, it’s easy to become your own worst enemy. Although, once you realize that body shaming is highly damaging to confidence and self-esteem levels, you’ll understand how easy it can be to stay body positive. Here are a few ways to remain body positive in your day-to-day activities.

Go on a Media Sabbatical

Put down the magazine and get off Facebook. It’s time to take a break from the mainstream media and focus on your own best features. Remember, the media only shows the public what they want you to see. No one’s life is as perfect as it may seem. No matter how athletic, rich or famous a person is, everyone experiences highs and lows. By taking a break from the mess of the media, you will have time to spend with friends and family who will continually support and encourage you. You will also have time to reflect on your health and progress.

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

You are not them, they are not you. You do not share the same life experiences or genetic makeup, so it’s unfair to be comparing yourself to those around you. Find your motivation elsewhere. For example, instead of comparing yourself to others you can compare your current self to your past self. Look at the leaps and bounds you have made and set goals and continue on the path to success.

Remember, You Hold the Control

Finally, remember that you hold the power to remain body positive. If you want to lose weight, you hold the power to make a lifestyle change. If you want to increase your confidence, you can find a support system and stop comparing yourself to others. Acknowledging the greatness that you currently possess.
